Frequently Asked Questions
Does Blue Ridge Pharmacy accept my insurance plan?
Blue Ridge Pharmacy accepts almost all insurance plans. The only way to know for sure is to bring your insurance card by or give us a call. Very rarely there will be an insurance plan that we do not yet accept, but in these cases we can call the insurance plan and set you up so that your prescriptions are covered.
Will my co-pays be the same at Blue Ridge Pharmacy as they are at major chain pharmacies?
Yes. When Blue Ridge Pharmacy contracts with an insurance company, we agree to accept the same co-pay as the major chains do. When you present your insurance card at Blue Ridge Pharmacy, you will experience superior service at the same price you are accustomed to paying.
I received a list of pharmacies from my insurance company and Blue Ridge is not listed. What does that mean?
It is probably nothing to worry about. The brochures provided by insurance companies usually only list a small number of local pharmacies. Often independent pharmacies are omitted in favor of larger retailers. We accept all major insurance plans and it is very likely that we accept yours.
How do I transfer my prescriptions to Blue Ridge Pharmacy?
Transferring your prescriptions to Blue Ridge Pharmacy couldn’t be easier. Just stop by or call 298-3636 and tell us where your prescriptions are currently filled. That’s it! We’ll take care of the rest.

If generic drugs are so much cheaper than brand name drugs, how can they work as well?
Generic manufacturers can make their drugs cheaper because they do not pay the development and marketing costs that the maker of the brand product pays. However, in order for a generic drug to be approved by the FDA, it must not only be proven safe and effective but it also must work the same way in the body as the brand drug.
I am on an expensive brand drug that is not available in a generic form. Are there any other options I might try in order to save money?
Even if one of your drugs is not available as a generic, there may be alternatives within the same drug class that work in a similar fashion. Blue Ridge pharmacists are experts at looking at your drug list and working closely with you and your physicians to help you save money.
My pharmacy told me that they can’t get one of the drugs I am on. How is that possible and can you help me?
Drug shortages can occur for a number of different reasons, including problems obtaining raw materials, manufacturing issues, discontinuation of drug products, and drug recalls. Blue Ridge Pharmacy works hard to stay on top of drug shortages by making sure we order enough product when a potential problem arises. If a drug shortage is prolonged, we can work with you to find a similar drug so that your drug therapy is as uninterrupted as possible.
